Preview Of 2024 NASCAR Phoenix Race
It may feel like just another Cup Series race in a long, long NASCAR race season. However, let’s not forget the Phoenix Raceway will also host the season finale, as it always does. For drivers with serious championship hopes, you want to get a “lay of the land” per se now long before the Championship 4. That sets the stage for our preview of the NASCAR Phoenix race (we refuse to call it by the sponsor name, which is a mouthful).
Let’s start here with the current odds to win the NASCAR Phoenix race. These are available at the best betting sites for sports right now. As it stands, these drivers have the best odds of winning it:
Driver | |||
---|---|---|---|
Kyle Larson | +500 | +500 | +500 |
Ryan Blaney | +600 | +600 | +600 |
William Byron | +675 | +675 | +675 |
Ross Chastain | +775 | +775 | +775 |
Denny Hamlin | +800 | +800 | +800 |
Kyle Busch | +1100 | +1100 | +1100 |
Christopher Bell | +1100 | +1100 | +1100 |
Three races into the season, it’s been all Chevrolet. Last week in Las Vegas, Larson picked up the win for Hendrick Motorsports. This comes after Byron took first at Daytona and Daniel Suarez the week after in Atlanta. Ford and Toyota are using new cars this season, and they’re seemingly still working the kinks because Chevy is dominating the field thus far.
The only other threat to Chevrolet's domination has been Blaney. The Ford driver has taken third and runner-up each of the past two weeks. For what it’s worth, Blaney has finished runner-up here three times in a row — two in the playoffs and once in the spring race.
However, the big thing to know about this year’s Phoenix race is the new rules. There is a brand-spanking new short track package debuting in Phoenix this weekend (even though the track isn’t short) — and no one truly knows what to expect from it. The new Next Gen car has long been criticized performance-wise on short tracks. NASCAR responded by tweaking the aerodynamics for better handling. That’s the short and sweet explanation, but it’s a little more complicated than that obviously.
Best Picks To Win 2024 NASCAR Phoenix Race
Two things when betting on the NASCAR Phoenix race: one, for the love of God, make multiple picks. As we just said, there are some pretty big car adjustments debuting this weekend. It’s impossible for us to say with certainty how that’ll affect the race’s outcome. For this reason alone, it would be smart to lay down multiple picks.
Two, though, you’d be smart to stick with the favorites. The Phoenix spring race has been a good predictor of who the 2024 champion will be. Since the finale was moved to Arizona in 2020, three of the four drivers that won in the spring made the Championship 4 later that year. With that stat top of mind, here’s who we’re backing with bets:
Ryan Blaney
This is a no-brainer bet for the reasons we’ve mentioned before: Blaney has three straight second-place outings in Phoenix and has started the 2024 campaign on a hot streak. Of course, being “close” won’t win Blaney this race or cash your ticket. No, no, no he needs to win the whole damn thing.
We’re betting the reigning NASCAR Cup champion can do it. With seven top fives and 11 top 10s in 16 career starts at Phoenix, it’s very clear this is one of his better tracks. The odds are good that he can find a way to break through and win it all this time.
Chase Elliott
This is a value bet more than anything else. Look, we all know Elliott has gone cold with no top-10 finishes in three races so far. This is on top of a somewhat disastrous 2023 season. But c’mon, Elliott at +1800 odds? For an 18-time race winner — including the 2020 Championship 4 at this track? Shoot, we’ll take that risk any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
How To Watch 2024 NASCAR Phoenix Race?
We sound like a broken record talking about this new aerodynamic rules package, but it’s seriously going to be unpredictable. Changes this drastic don’t get implemented on just any race so that alone makes the Phoenix race worth watching.
On that note, make sure you’re tuning in to FOX if you’re in the United States. The network will exclusively air the race on television. A few streaming “skinny” bundles have FOX so that’s an option. Either way, the action gets started at 3:30 pm EST this Sunday.
