“It comes down to seeing the hunger, seeing the fire in someone’s eyes and I don’t see that,” Du Plessis told mainevent in an exclusive interview. “I can’t remember if he explicitly said he’s retiring, but he said he’s taking off for a couple of months. I don’t remember if he said he was retiring but it almost gave off that, and everybody would have understood that."
According to the best sports betting sites, which includes the reliable Bovada sportsbook review, Adesanya holds -110 UFC betting odds to come away with a win. As for Du Plessis, he's been given +125 odds per the UFC betting sites. From our chair, this is going to be a close contest and it sure has the ability to go the distance. Normally we'd go with Adesanya as our pick, but that's not the case for this one.

Dricus Du Plessis is our pick to beat Israel Adesanya at UFC 305
Yes, normally, we'd be all over Adesanya getting his hand raised at the end of the fight. However, Dricus Du Plessis is our pick to beat Israel Adesanya at UFC 305. There's a lot of hype surrounding his name and for good reason. If Adesanya was a major favorite, then yes, we'd have a little more caution in going with Du Plessis as our selection. However, he has proven to be a dynamite fighter and not many people have had luck topping him.
Throughout his UFC career, he only has two losses to his name. Even more impressively, he has 21 wins. Adesanya poses a different kind of opponent, as he's known for his speed and power. However, Du Plessis is a smart fighter, with incredible defense. He's hoping to keep that going vs. Adesanya, which will be needed if he wants to pull off an upset. It certainly won't be an easy task either.
Today our new minister of sports @GaytonMcK visited myself and team CIT.
I am humbled and so proud, this is a massive step in the right direction for the change we needed for a better SA. Thank you Sir for leading by example, you are a true inspiration#proudtobesouthafrican🇿🇦 pic.twitter.com/AsEGk8r9Un— Dricus Du Plessis (@dricusduplessis) July 30, 2024
"He did what he had to do in the sport, and he has reached the pinnacle of what he’s gonna reach in his career when it comes to the winning streak," Du Plessis said of Adesanya via mainevent. "He’s never gonna have that streak again. Defending the belt as many times as he did. He doesn’t have the time or anything to beat that, so what is he doing this for?”
Du Plessis has the tools to post a win. He's going to have to be nearly perfect to stun Adesanya, but you never know what might happen under the bright lights. Should Adesanya go on to be victorious, it won't be a surprise to us in the slightest. However, we also won't be taken aback if Du Plessis is able to pull it off. It will be interesting to see if this happens or not, but with all of that said, we're rocking with the underdog.
Steve Erceg is expected to win in the UFC 305 co-main event
As excited as everyone is for Du Plessis vs. Adesanya, keep in mind that Steve Erceg is expected to win the UFC 305 co-main event. In primetime, he will be facing off against Kai Kara-France, which should be another great showdown for people to enjoy. What will it take for Erceg to win this one? Well, he just needs to focus on what he can control.
Kara-France has the kind of speed and power that can shock anyone. That's why Erceg needs to be on top of his game. Luckily, we think that will be the case. The top sportsbooks have given him -205 betting odds to handle business against Kara-France. We think he'll be able to do just that. We're going with Erceg as our pick for this one, no doubt about it.
