Alex Pereira vs. Jamahal Hill Betting Pick
This fight is expected to end quickly as the over/under is a meager 1.5 rounds. The expectation is probably right because both of these fighters are as dangerous as can be. We’ll get to that shortly, but first, here’s a look at the Pereira-Hill moneyline odds available at UFC’s best betting sites:
This is for the light heavyweight title — a championship that Hill never lost. He had to vacate the title because of a ruptured Achilles, and we haven’t seen him in the octagon since. You have to factor in that injury, especially in a matchup that’s this close.
Both fighters love to stand up and swing. Hill is a boxer by trade, while Pereira is a kickboxer. Even then, the danger advantage has to go to the current champion. Seven of his career nine wins have been by way of knockout. There was doubt whether his power would translate at light heavyweight — he came up from middleweight — but dropping Jiri Prochazka last time out ended that conversation.
Here’s what we think is the under-the-radar X-factor on this matchup: leg kicks. If there’s a clear weakness in Hill’s game, it’s defending the kick. Hell, we wouldn’t even call it a disadvantage. It’s more like a gaping hole that Hill has refused to address so far in his career. It hasn’t bitten him yet, but he’s never faced a world-class kickboxer like Pereira either. That's why the champ is the bet to make.
Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway Betting Pick
This feels like the most anticipated fight of the night. Highly anticipated because both these fighters are crowd favorites with their stand-up-and-swing styles. For this reason, we were most drawn into betting the over/under between Gaethje and Holloway. Here’s where the odds stand:
As you can see, this is a five-rounder, not three. That’s because it’s for the BMF title. To make the fight happen, Holloway had to move up to lightweight from featherweight. He has fought in the division before, losing a close fight against Dustin Poirier back in 2019. The thing is Gaethje just captured the BMF title by knocking out Poirier last summer.
Has Holloway bitten off more than he can chew? We’re inclined to say yes. There’s no denying Holloway’s greatness. If not for Alexander Volkanovski (who’s beaten Holloway three times), Max would be considered an all-timer. Again though, that’s at featherweight, his natural class. We predict the weight jump and Gaethje’s power will give Holloway serious trouble in this one.
We’re going to bet the under here. Yes, we know that’s crazy given the fact that Holloway has never once been stopped in 32 career fights. His chin is the stuff of legends, but Gaethje’s heavy hands and the weight class will do Holloway in here. Gaethje also has a longer reach in this one. All this is to say the deck is stacked against Holloway and you’ll want to fade him as a bettor.
Zhang Weili vs. Yan Xiaonan Betting Pick
The co-main event is another title fight, this one for the strawweight championship. Weili is a heavy favorite to retain her title at -395 odds. There’s not a whole lot of betting value there, that's we’re jumping on the over/under wager between Weili and Xiaonan instead. Here’s the latest odds:
First of all, we really don’t see a scenario where Weili loses. She’s the best women’s fighter going today, and might even have a chance at the G.O.A.T. conversation if she keeps at this pace. There’s almost no flaw in her game. None. Weili is a striker at heart but can grapple if need be too. Her skill set outdoes her opponent in every department.
Speaking of Xiaonan, she has one and only one path to victory: knock out Weili. The skill gap is too big between both for Xiaonan to outpoint the champ for five rounds. But to Xiaonan's credit, there is a chance she can get the stop. It’s not like we haven’t seen Weili finished before. Plus, Xiaonan is a pretty damn good striker — not at Weili’s level, but not that far behind. Xiaonan did chin Jessica Andrade last time out so it’s plausible.
The bet to make here is under. We fully expect Weili to earn the early stoppage, but in the event she’s upset in stunning fashion, it’ll likely be a flash knockout. We doubt it happens, but it just reinforces our under bet anyway.
