Chiefs Remain Super Bowl Favorites After an Impressive Week 1 Showing

Can you believe Week 1 of the NFL season is already in the books? In a flash, the first set of games for the opening campaign flew by and now we're already on to Week 2. There were some great games on the schedule, of course including the one between Kansas City and Baltimore. In the end, KC was able to survive with a 27-20 win. Thanks to that victory, the Chiefs remain Super Bowl favorites after an impressive Week 1 showing. Is a three-peat on the way?

Kansas City has won the title in back-to-back years. Now, they're hoping to make NFL history by capturing the Lombardi Trophy three years in a row. If that ends up happening, Patrick Mahomes is going to play a major role in things. He looked great vs. the Ravens and more of the same will be needed the rest of the campaign. Mahomes continues to be without question the best player in the NFL.

“I believe everyone in our program — coaches, trainers, equipment guys, cafeteria women and men, and definitely the players,” Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson said after the loss to Kansas City. “For us to lose to those guys in the way we lost, even though I don’t want to do it, I can’t be mad at my guys.”

According to the best sports betting sites, which includes the reliable Bovada sportsbook review, the Chiefs hold +475 NFL betting odds to win the Super Bowl again after they took care of business against Jackson and Co. The Chiefs are fantastic on both sides of the ball and while it's still early in the year, there are plenty of signs pointing to them getting the job done. However, we think someone else will be the one to capture the glory.

The 49ers are our pick to win the 2024 Super Bowl

Call it a gut feeling, but the 49ers are our pick to win the 2024 Super Bowl. In Week 1, San Francisco took on the New York Jets for some Monday Night Football action. The expectation was that Aaron Rodgers and Co. would be able to keep things close. The opposite turned out to be the case, as the 49ers were able to dominate. It was a step backwards for Rodgers and the rest of the New York squad.

What made this win even more impressive for SF was the fact that All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey was held out of the game with a calf injury. He's also expected to miss Week 2, which is a blow for this offense. However, Brock Purdy, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk still help form one of the more impressive offenses in the game. Not only that, but the SF defense is among the best in the game too.

“We expect greatness when we step on the field,” Rodgers told reporters after the loss to the 49ers. “There were moments, moments that felt pretty good but not sustained. I felt like if we could just get a first down we’d be rolling. But we had those three and outs which hurt us. I think a lot of stuff is correctable.

Per the top NFL betting sites,  the 49ers hold the No. 2 betting odds to win the Super Bowl at +550. A lot of people think the 49ers and Chiefs will end up meeting in the Super Bowl, which would be a rematch of last year's big game. That'd be a dream matchup and one that fans would love to see. Should that be the case, we think the 49ers would be able to get some revenge on Kansas City. We're going with the 49ers as our pick.

Several other teams are in contention for the Super Bowl title

While a lot of focus is on the 49ers and Chiefs, it's important to remember that several other teams are in contention for the Super Bowl title. The Ravens are of course going to be a team to keep an eye on. Jackson is the reigning MVP and he's among the top QBs in the game. He can hurt an opposing defense with his strong right arm and also his impressive wheels. Baltimore's defense is impressive as well.

Elsewhere, teams like the Dolphins, Cowboys, Packers, Jaguars, Lions, Jets and Texans are hoping to make a statement too. Of those squads, we think the Dolphins and Cowboys have the best chance to surprise a lot of people. The Dolphins are looking to post their first postseason win since 2000 and this could be the year where they get things done. It will be interesting to see if that happens or not.
