Don’t put a dollar on this week’s NFL matchups until you read our betting advice for the week. We’ve done the dirty work for you by researching the games and selecting three NFL bets most worth making in Week 9. We’re confident these picks will turn out profitable!
- What: Week 9
- When: November 2 - 8
Moneyline: Miami Dolphins at Kansas City
This is one of the most anticipated games of the year. For one, it’s going down in Germany. Two, it pits the two best teams in the AFC (based on record) against one another. Three, it’s Tyreek Hill’s first outing against his former team. All these reasons will make Miami vs. Kansas City one of Week 9’s most bet-on games. Here’s how the moneyline odds are shaking out at NFL’s best betting sites:
The Chiefs are reeeling after a shocking 24-9 loss to the Broncos, a team that gave up 70 points to the Dolphins earlier this season. The score gives you an idea of what went wrong: KC’s offense was inept. Many want to give the attack the benefit of the doubt because, well, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and play-caller Andy Reid have proven themselves with two Super Bowl titles. But this Chiefs' offense has been stuck in the reverse half of the season now.
Against Denver, the Kansas City offense gave up the ball four different times. They continued to struggle running the ball (only 62 yards on 16 carries). Mahomes had the flu so he was off. But no one was there offensively to pick up the slack because the Chiefs don’t have a lot of depth or playmakers. KC are still contenders, but they shouldn’t be feared like once upon a time.
For this reason, we’re picking the Dolphins in a moneyline upset. This offense strikes fear in the way KC’s once did. But the real reason Miami will win is because of defense. It’s taken a few months, but defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has turned the corner with this unit. A healthy Jalen Ramsey now in the mix also helps big time. Bet confidently on the upset in this international showdown.
Against The Spread: Los Angeles Rams at Green Bay Packers
Both these teams are on similar trajectories: recent NFC powerhouses that’ve faded this season. Both have five losses to their names and desperately need a win here to keep any playoff chances alive. As it stands, the Rams are marginal favorites over the Packers on the spread. Here’s how the lines shake out:
The rest of LA’s season hinges on the thumb of Matt Stafford. The quarterback injured it this past Sunday, but the extent of the damage — could be a bone break or ligament tear — is unknown. The unknown is also whether Stafford will even play in Week 9, but we get the feeling he most likely won’t. That leaves Brett Rypien as the only quarterback on the Rams roster (Stetson Bennett is also away from the team).
Rypien has started three NFL games before but hasn’t shown much. Over his career, he has four touchdowns to eight interceptions. If Rypien is under center on Sunday, the Rams are in trouble — even against an ice-cold Packers team. The Cheeseheads have lost four in a row thanks to an underwhelming offense that beats itself with penalties, missed assignments, and more.
In spite of that, we’re still backing Green Bay to cover the spread. That’s how much little confidence we have in Rypien to move the LA offense. Parlaying the GB spread and the game under (39.5 points) might be the smart play cause this game could get bowling-shoe ugly in a hurry.
Over/Under 48.5 Points: Buffalo Bills at Cincinnati Bengals
Is Week 9 going to be a barnburner or what? Here's another matchup featuring two Super Bowl contenders and a rematch of the divisional playoffs a year ago. The Bills-Bengals over/under line is what most draws our attention — not the moneyline or spread. Here’s how the line is being pegged:
Is Cincy back on track? We think so. This team got off to a 1-3 start. Joe Burrow was playing on one leg and the Bengals looked like disappointments. That label is no more, not after they went into San Francisco and beat them comfortably. Burrow played absolutely fantastic, going 28-for-32 and three touchdowns. It’s hard to play better than that, and it’s safe to say Burrow is healthy now.
Then there’s Buffalo, who had a mini-bye week since they played the Thursday Night game, a win over Tampa. They’ve had extra time to prepare for this one, and we’re betting they take advantage of it. We see this game being a duel between two elite quarterbacks with more than enough points. If so, the over hits!
