Preview Of 2024 MotoGP Season
The 2023 season was one for the books. In particular, it was one of the most competitive seasons in a long time. Eight different riders won at least one Grand Prix and for only the second time ever, no one won connective races. Based on this balance of power alone, expectations are high this season as we preview the 2024 MotoGP season.
The 2024 campaign begins this weekend with the Qatar Grand Prix. That’s why now is the opportune time to bet MotoGP futures — on the world champion or constructor’s championship. This article is on the former. Speaking of which, let’s take a gander at the current MotoGP title odds. Here’s how the best sports betting sites have it pegged:
Rider | |||
---|---|---|---|
Marc Marquez | +125 | +125 | +125 |
Francesco Bagnaia | +250 | +250 | +250 |
Jorge Martin | +600 | +600 | +600 |
Enea Bastianini | +1200 | +1200 | +1200 |
Brad Binder | +2100 | +2100 | +2100 |
Marco Bezzecchi | +2900 | +2900 | +2900 |
Honestly, we’re taken aback by who the favorite is — Marquez, not the two-time defending champion Bagnaia. Marquez, as always, is the big attention-getter in the sport, but especially this offseason. The Spaniard and Honda cut ties, ending a partnership that delivered six world championships. Marquez is now with Gresini Racing, which is effectively Ducati’s satellite team (and will be running on an updated version of the 2023 Ducati).
Bagnaia is second in the latest betting odds. As we said, he’s the reigning champion of the world. It was Ducati domination all of 2023 with four of the top-five-finishing riders all belonging to the team. Still, Bagnaia led the way, just beating out teammate Jorge Martin for the title. The difference between the two was only 39 points despite Bagnaia winning seven races compared to Martin’s four.
Betting Advice For 2024 MotoGP Championship
Our betting advice for the 2024 MotoGP title is two-fold. Not only will we be saying who you should put money on, but also you shouldn’t. Deciding who to skip over with bets is sometimes just as important when wagering.
On that note, don’t waste your money betting on Marquez. For the third straight season, bettors are stuck on the Marquez-is-back narrative loop. We predict they’ll be left disappointed once again. This guy just can’t stay healthy. One freak injury — like the one he sustained in 2020 — is understandable. But this is a trend now after Marquez has missed multiple races every year four seasons running now. Four seasons straight!
A healthy Marquez is still one of the best on the track. But there’s no way we’re trusting him to last the entire season — especially not at 31 years old now. Plus, switching teams is another unknown variable to factor in with the legendary rider. All of it is too much for us to back with money. No way.
Bagnaia is a much better bet than Marquez. Again, how in the world is the two-time-defending champion not the betting favorite? We’d complain, but that just makes this wager all the worth more taking. Ironically, no one has three-peated since Marquez in 2018. But if there’s ever one person to do it, it’s Bagnaia who has 18 total victories in the past three years. The threat of Marquez in the Ducati inner circle might just bring out an even better Bagnaia.
However, you might want a backup bet after Bagnaia, who is sometimes his own worst enemy getting into wrecks and DNFs. Here again, we’re staying with Ducati and backing Bastianini. His 2023 campaign was wrecked by two different injuries. But unlike Marquez, these do feel like chance occurrences and not patterns. We wouldn’t be surprised at all to see Bastianini bounce back and even threaten for a title.
2024 MotoGP Schedule
