It has been an unreal season for college football fans and things are almost closing up for the 2024 regular season. Soon enough, we’ll find out which teams will be making it to the College Football Playoff. At the same time, conference titles will also be on the line soon enough. Having said that, Georgia is our pick to win the 2025 SEC title.
As things stand, Texas, new to the SEC, is actually the favorite to win the SEC Championship game this year. It’s hard to imagine Steve Sarkisian no longer being in the Big 12, but that’s what has happened due to realignment. They’ve been on a roll this year, but Georgia was able to bounce back in a big way last week with a dominant win over Tennessee.
SEC title odds | |||
---|---|---|---|
Texas to win | +175 | +175 | +175 |
Alabama to win | +225 | +225 | +225 |
Georgia to win | +300 | +300 | +300 |
Texas A&M to win | +1000 | +1000 | +1000 |
“We stopped the run a little better and that gave us a chance," coach Kirby Smart said after the win. "I was really proud of the secondary because you’re in some really tough cover environments out there, like in space. And some of it, they helped us. I think they dropped some balls that were like bang, bang plays, but they didn’t get behind us. And that’s the big achievement, keep them in front of you, tackle them."
According to the best sports betting sites, Texas holds the best NCAAF betting odds at +175 to win the SEC. Alabama is right behind them at +225, while Georgia is No. 3 per the NCAAF betting sites at +300. Some things need to go the right way for UGA over the next two weeks, but we’re going with them as our pick to win the SEC this year.
“The kids in our room that haven’t played yet and sometimes they want to pout, they need to realize that you don’t know when your time is coming. Will you work while you wait?” Kirby Smart pic.twitter.com/zBkcY3FIvE

Georgia is a massive favorite against UMass this weekend
With the hard part of their schedule behind them, it’s good news for the Bulldogs. Having said that, Georgia is a massive favorite against UMass this weekend, which should come as no surprise. Georgia was electric on both sides of the ball last week against the Vols, which came as a bit of a surprise, as Josh Heupel and Co. entered the game with a ton of confidence.
As for UMass, it’s been yet another down year for them and they just announced recently that head coach Don Brown has been fired. Smart knows Brown quite well and he made it more than clear that he was disappointed to hear the news of his firing. While Smart is focused on taking down UMass, he also sent Brown his best wishes to the team as a whole.
UMass fires Don Brown, OC Shane Montgomery will serve as interim coach.
Brown was 6-28 on his second stint (he was very successful at FCS UMass, including a FCS title game runner-up)

"Yeah, we jumped into UMass yesterday and got started on these guys. We've got our players in, and we'll be moving forward with them," Smart told reporters. "Heard the unfortunate news about Don Brown just recently. I know Shane (Montgomery) from the past and recruited together on the road. I've been around Shane before. He's a tremendous coach, and we look forward to preparing for this game."
For this weekend’s game in Athens, Georgia is a 42.5-point favorite. Betting on the moneyline isn’t going to net you a lot of money, but the football betting odds for the over/under, which has been set at 55.5 points, are at -110 for both. There’s no doubt in our minds that the over will be posted, as we think Carson Beck and Co. will be on a roll once again. We’re going with the over as our pick.
Multiple SEC teams are hoping to reach the College Football Playoff
Taking a look at the conference as a whole, multiple SEC teams are hoping to reach the College Football Playoff. Right now, Texas, Alabama and Ole Miss feel like locks to make the Top 12. However, we must now wait and see what happens with Tennessee. The Vols are one of the top teams in the nation, however the CFP Committee may penalize them for the loss to UGA.
Keep in mind that Tennessee previously suffered a loss on the road to Arkansas, which the committee is surely going to keep in mind when it's time to finalize the last 12 teams who will still be in contention. The Vols' defense has been great, but the loss to Georgia could sting.Barring a late surprise, something tells us that Tennessee, Georgia, Texas and Ole Miss will all have seats at the table.
However, should any of those teams suffer a loss during the final two weeks of the season, it could change things in a massive way. Soon enough, we'll find out how everything is played out.
