MLS Game Day 3 Betting Tips

MLS Game Day 3 Betting Tips

Columbus Crew and D.C. United try to bounce back from defeats when they meet in Washington. Elsewhere, Philadelphia Union look to overtake Orlando City if they can go to Florida and get three points at their hosts expense.

D.C. United (+110) vs. Columbus Crew (+220) 7pm ET

While D.C. United got hammered 4-0 by New York City last weekend, Columbus Crew were busy losing at Houston. Defensively, they made too many individual errors:

We expect both teams to tighten up this gameweek. The winning result for Columbus Crew (+220) is our pick, but the 1-0 victory for the away team appeals at odds of +1300 via Bovada.

Three of the last five games between these sides have finished in shutout wins and neither team is scoring freely this early so far this season.

Under 1.5 goals is +280, but this market might need to nudge past the +300 point to become the best value, as each side have had over 20 shots so far. Exactly half of D.C. United's shots have been on target, with Crew making the goalkeeper work with nine of their 21 strikes.

Orlando City (Evens) vs. Philadelphia Union (+260) 7.30pm ET

Sitting fifth and sixth in the Eastern Conference at the beginning of the third gameweek, these sides are evenly matched. The disparity between the betting odds comes from the home advantage that Orlando are consistently provided.

Orlando's only win in the last five games between these two sides came in a 2-0 result at Philadelphia last season.

Philadelphia Union are +1200 to win 2-1 with Bet365 and that's well worth backing. They are a less risky +260 to win, and for the paranoid, -125 in a double chance shot with the tie (below via Bovada). Both the last two games between these sides in Florida ended all square.

F.C. Dallas (-125) vs. New England Revolution (+300) 8pm ET

Dallas host New England Revolution having won each of the last five meetings between the two sides in the Major League Soccer regular season. They also thrashed them in the 2016 U.S. Open Cup Final:

F.C. Dallas are +225 to win to nil via Bet365, and +800 to win 2-0.

Given The Revs' rustiness in only playing one game to date, that could be a very useful bet. The 1-0 home win for Dallas is +700, but an early goal for the hosts could set them up for a game in which they can utilize their counter-attacking prowess.

The only wrinkle may be the fact that Dallas took on Pachuca in the CONCACAF Champions League on Wednesday. But with 17-year-old prodigy Paxton Pomykal likely to feature again and Max Urruti value at +150 to score at any time, Dallas should come through with the win.
