Betting Picking For MotoGP 2019 Grand Prix of Americas
American motor sport fans get one chance a year to see the very best MotoGP racers on their home soil. That opportunity presents itself on April 14 at the Circuit of Americas down in Austin, Texas. Here’s a complete betting preview of the annual showdown with our picks and predictions!
Two races into the 2019 MotoGP season and a familiar face sits atop the rider standings — the one and only Marc Marquez. The Honda rider is fresh off an Argentine Grand Prix victory that leapfrogged him over Andrea Dovizioso in the leaderboard.
The standings should remain in flux for the Grand Prix of the Americas. This will mark the seventh time the race has been held in Austin, Texas. MotoGP USA odds currently have Marquez earmarked as the favorite, but he'll face stiff competition from the likes of Andrea Dovizioso, Valentino Rossi, and Maverick Vinales.
Marquez Owns The Americas
We previously picked Marquez to retain his World Championship and another win at the Americas would have him in the driver's seat (pun fully intended) for 2019. The Spaniard's dominance across the sport is evident with five world titles in six years, but it's even more obvious inside the United States.
Not only has Marquez won at Austin every single time since the race first began in 2013, but he's never lost on American soil period. Not once. Throw in previous wins at Laguna Seca and the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and Marquez is a perfect 12-0 inside the United States. At this point, we might as well refer to Marquez as the Grand Prix of North America undisputed champion.
A year ago at this very event, Marquez nearly blemished his undefeated record. After blocking Vinales in qualifying, a grid penalty forced Marquez to start the race from fourth place on the grid. The demotion proved inconsequential as Marquez crossed the finish line 3.5 seconds ahead of runner-up Vinales.
Until he's beaten inside America, it's almost impossible to think he's not the betting pick to make here. Of course, by now you know betting on Marquez is always a must, whether its this race or another. However, Marquez's track history in the United States should give you extra confidence to really lay it big on Marquez.
Darkhorse Pick To Upset Marquez
Everyone loves betting the underdog and we get that. Even though we've already vouched for backing up Marquez with a hefty wager, we know you need some insurance. In that case, look no further than Valentino Rossi.
The Yamaha rider is currently third on the Riders' standings after fifth- and second-place finishes in Qatar and Argentina, respectively. But what we really like about Rossi's chances at the 2019 Motorcycle Grand Prix of the Americas is his history at the circuit. In three of the past four races in Austin, Rossi has placed top-5 three separate times.
That track record gives us hope that Rossi finally breaks through this time around because he'll definitely be in the thick of it. Look at it this way, what if Marquez receives another penalty or makes a rare mistake? Surely, Rossi would be there to capitalize off it.
