2020 NCAAF Title Game: Latest Odds, Preview, and Pick

2020 NCAAF Title Game: Latest Odds, Preview, and Pick

For the fourth time in five years, Clemson finds themselves in the NCAA national championship game. In spite of that success, they’re considerable underdogs against LSU this time around. So what should bettors do? We have our best-value advice here, as well as a free pick to make!

Just days away from the NCAA football title game, national championship odds currently look like this, per online sportsbooks:

  • LSU (-225)
  • Clemson (+185)

Bookies are also expecting a shootout, evident by the 70-point over/under total. A bet either way comes with a -110 line.

Before we give out our free pick, we can't forget to remind you about all the sign-up bonuses and promotions you can take advantage of this new year. Just create an account, deposit money, and earn free money right back — it's that simple!

No. 3 Clemson vs. No. 1 LSU (-6.5)

After completely dismantling Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff semifinal, it's no surprise why LSU has the better odds to win national championship

LSU signal caller Joe Burrow put an exclamation mark on his Heisman season with a seven-touchdown performance against the Sooners. Oh, and all seven of those scores came in the first half. At this point, Burrow is practically a lock to go number one overall in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The quarterback opposite of Burrow come the January 13 title game is Trevor Lawrence, who will probably go number one himself in the 2021 draft once he's eligible. Whichever one of those two throwers has the better game might very well decide the outcome.

Out of the two, we like Lawrence to shine just a little more. LSU's defense, despite playing in the vaunted SEC, has really only played one stud quarterback all season long — Tua Tagovailoa, who absolutely torched them on a bum ankle no less.

Lawrence presents a lot of the same problems as Tua, but probably even more dangerous. The rocket arm is obvious, but Lawrence's rushing threat has caught teams by surprise this season, just ask Ohio State, who gave up a 67-yard rushing score to him.

Plus, there's something to be said about big-game experience. Lawrence and the rest of the Clemson team were on this very stage a year ago, trouncing Alabama. The big-game jitters might get to a less-experienced LSU team, at least early on.

While we really like Clemson to keep it close, we're not picking them to win outright, either. The championship contest will be held in the Mercedez-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. That makes it a de facto home game for LSU. It's also the same stadium where they've won its last two national titles in 2003 and 2007.

Take LSU to win, but bet Clemson to cover the spread. The latter of which is the more profitable bet to make considering LSU is more than two-to-one favorites.

Betting pick to make: Clemson (+6.5)

With that, our title game preview is a wrap. Be sure to track 2020 national championship odds at one of the sportsbooks below. They will fluctuate as gameday inches closer and closer.
