NFL Comeback Player of the Year
Here's how Bovada has the odds currently pegged for this coveted award:
NFL Comeback Player of the Year | |||
---|---|---|---|
Rob Gronkowski |
+325 | +310 | +305 |
Ben Roethlisberger |
+400 | +420 | +430 |
Matt Stafford |
+650 | +600 | +650 |
Alex Smith |
+700 | +700 | +700 |
You have to go with Roethlisberger here. Look he suffered a freak injury last season. He's been largely durable during his 15-year career. Our bet is he returns to not only his healthy ways but the prolific passer ways, too. He's less than two years removed from an eye-popping 5,100-yard and 34-touchdown year and has a talented arsenal of weapons around in him (JuJu Smith-Schuster and James Conner).
Betting pick: Roethlisberger (+400)
Finishing Position In Standings — New England Patriots
How will the Pats fare in its first-go post-Tom Brady?
Finishing Position - New England Patriots | |||
---|---|---|---|
First |
+130 | +110 | +105 |
Second |
+205 | +220 | +230 |
Third |
+300 | +300 | +350 |
Fourth |
+600 | +600 | +700 |
Plain and simple, Bill Belichick has proven he can win in New England without Brady already. They went 11-5 in 2008 with Matt Cassell at center and 3-1 while Brady was suspended in 2016. Expect the same in 2020.
Plus, who else in that division is qualified to take his thrown? Adam Gase? Sean McDermott? Brian Flores? What have they ever won? Our confidence resides with the six-time Super Bowl champion coach.
Betting pick: First (+130)
DeAndre Hopkins — Over/Under 1,125 Yard Receiving in 2020 Season
Odds are completely split on this one with both the under and over being an equal -115.
For us, it's a no-brainer that "Nuk" will eclipse the total. Homer the over hard here. Despite being traded for cents on the dollar, Hopkins is still a top-5 receiver that's only 27 years old. Now is when he should be peaking.
Plus, Kyler Murray is due for a massive jump in year two not unlike the one we saw out of Lamar Jackson in 2019. A pairing between Murray-Hopkins will be one of the most lethal across the whole league.
Betting pick: Over (-115)
Teams With Most Regular Season Losses
Here's a fun one, who will finish dead-last in the league come 2020 years-end?
Teams with the most Regular Season Losses | |||
---|---|---|---|
Jacksonville Jaguars |
+250 | +250 | +305 |
Washington Redskins |
+600 | +620 | +630 |
Carolina Panthers |
+700 | +750 | +750 |
Carolina hit the reset button over the last year. Gone is Ron Rivera, coach of the last nine years. Gone is defensive anchor Luke Kuechly to early retirement. Gone is the face of the franchise, Cam Newton. We expect things to get ugly in 2020 with a bare-bones roster.
Plus, for all intents and purposes, Trevor Lawrence of Clemson is the prohibitive favorite to go No. 1 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. The Panthers keeping Lawrence in the Carolinas would be a box office move.
Betting pick: Carolina (+700)
NFL MVP Winner
It's no surprise the betting favorites are all signal-callers:
NFL MVP Winner | |||
---|---|---|---|
Patrick Mahomes |
+350 | +360 | +315 |
Lamar Jackson |
+800 | +820 | +830 |
Tom Brady |
+900 | +900 | +850 |
Russell Wilson |
+1000 | +1000 | +900 |
Sophomore quarterbacks have won back-to-back MVP titles (Mahomes in 2017, Jackson in 2018). How about a three-peat?
We mentioned it earlier, but we're all aboard the Murray bandwagon. His skill set — an unconventional thrower that can scramble in the pocket — is the new quarterback prototype in 2020, no longer the tall drop-back passer. He'll thrive in his second-go at Kliff Kingsbury's offense and with a much improved supporting cast.
Betting pick: Kyler Murray (+1200)
Derrick Henry — Over/Under 1,290 Rushing Yards In 2020 Season
Henry, the 2019 rushing leader at a whopping 1,540 yards on the ground, is an even -115 both ways. We'll take the under. More than anything, we believe opposing defenses will stack the box with eight defenders in an effort to contain Henry. The question then becomes, can Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill help keep defenses honest with his arm? We don't think so, which will hurt Henry's efforts.
Betting pick: Under (-115)
Cleveland Browns — Playoff Appearance
We finish off with the league's loveable losers, the Browns. They are +120 to earn a postseason trip, while -160 to miss out yet again (they haven't made it since the 2002 season).
Former head coach Freddie Kitchens deservingly fell on the sword for Cleveland's disappointing 2019 campaign. But did the franchise really upgrade with new coach Kevin Stefanski? He's been an offensive coordinator just once, last year for Minnesota, and his offense was only so-so.
Our prediction is that the Browns' struggles continue this year. There's just something to be said about having a winning culture and Cleveland doesn't fit that bill.
Betting pick: No (-160)
