NFL MVP Betting Pick
This might be one of the most wide-open MVP races in a long, long time. We mean, the top online sportsbooks don't even have an NFL MVP betting pick to favor. Here are the current odds pre-week 13:
Player | ||
---|---|---|
Tom Brady | +300 | +300 |
Josh Allen | +400 | +400 |
Aaron Rodgers | +600 | +600 |
Patrick Mahomes | +850 | +850 |
Kyler Murray | +1200 | +1200 |
Dak Prescott | +1200 | +1200 |
Historically, the NFL MVP is given to a quarterback on the best team in the league. So starting there might help us make the best decision. While six weeks remain in the season, these three teams seem to be the "best" — Arizona (9-2), Green Bay (9-3), and Tampa Bay (8-3). And what do you know, the signals callers for each are among the top-five betting odds favorites.
Cardinals Kyler Murray has missed three games in a row and there's a chance the streak becomes four this weekend. If not for injuries, we'd make him the favorite but alas, it's tough to pick him here. That leaves Aaron Rodgers (the reigning MVP winner) and Tom Brady. And the stat lines from both are very similar:
- Brady: 3403, 30 touchdowns, nine interceptions, and QB rating of 103.1
- Rodgers: 2878 yards, 23 touchdowns, four interceptions, and QB rating of 105.5
We hate to say it, but given how close the two are stats-wise, the MVP vote might come down to "narrative." After his COVID-19 saga, Rodgers is being seen in a harsh light by many of the same media members that will vote on this award. It shouldn't affect the voting, but it does in this political-charge climate. Lay it on Brady to win an MVP at the age of 44 — a more positive media narrative worth telling.
NFL Coach Of The Year Betting Pick
Coach | ||
---|---|---|
Bill Belichick | +175 | +175 |
Kliff Kingsbury | +300 | +300 |
Zac Taylor | +800 | +800 |
Matt LaFleur | +900 | +900 |
Mike Vrabel | +1800 | +1800 |
This award is less wide-open, but far from a foregone conclusion either. Two coaches — Bill Belichick and Kliff Kingsbury — have separated themselves from the pack in the NFL betting lines. So whose the better Coach of the Year betting pick between the two?
Well, both have the element of surprise going their way. That's usually what determines this award winner, which team exceeded expectations most. Few thought the Cardinals would have the league's best record at this point yet here we are. For the Patriots, fewer people believed they'd be a half-game behind for AFC's one seed after they started 1-3 this year, but yet again, here we are.
But let's dig deeper into the element of surprise. Belichick is widely considered the sport's greatest head coach and he has six rings to back that. Kingsbury? He hasn't had a winning record as head coach since 2015. Heck, some felt he was on the hot seat before the season even started. When you take that into consideration, doesn't Kingbury and Arizona's season feel slightly more special?
We sure think so, hence why we'd vouch for a bet on Kingsbury over anyone else. But with that said, you could conceivably bet on both and still profit, so long as one wins. Say you bet $100 on each. In that scenario, if Belichick wins, you'd profit $75, whereas as Kingsbury win would guarantee you $200. Consider this strategy if you're more risk-averse and just want to secure a profit no matter what.
Defensive Player Of The Year Betting Pick
Player | ||
---|---|---|
Myles Garrett | +100 | +100 |
Matt Judon | +500 | +500 |
Trevon Diggs | +650 | +650 |
Aaron Donalds | +1400 | +1400 |
TJ Watt | +1400 | +1400 |
This is the only other award where betting value remains. Other awards are pretty much a wrap at this point like Rookie of the Year (Mac Jones) or Comeback Player of the Year (Dak Prescott) and that's reflected in lopsided betting odds. Bad lines might become the case here if you wait any longer on making a Defensive Player of the Year betting pick.
That's because Myles Garrett of the Browns is slowly running away with it. The pass rusher is up to 14 sacks with five games to go. Garret is on pace to join the 20-sack club, which has been done only 20 times before in a single season. Our advice is to place a futures bet on Garrett right now while he's still even money. The longer you wait, the worse the odds will likely get given his pace of play.
