The Presidents’ Trophy is handed out at the season’s end to the NHL team that finishes with the best regular-season record. As we inch closer and closer to the end of the 2023-24 campaign in hockey, who’s getting it this year? Keep reading for an expert pick on the NHL Presidents’ Trophy.
2024 NHL Presidents’ Trophy Odds
This awards bet is one of many available at the best NHL betting sites. Others also for grabs are player awards like the Hart or Vezina Trophy. However, we see a lot of value in taking this bet right now. We’ll explain why shortly, but first, here are the teams most favored to win the Presidents’ Trophy:
Team | |||
---|---|---|---|
Vancouver Canucks | +190 | +190 | +190 |
Florida Panthers | +550 | +550 | +550 |
Boston Bruins | +550 | +550 | +550 |
Dallas Stars | +600 | +600 | +600 |
Winnipeg Jets | +950 | +950 | +950 |
New York Rangers | +1300 | +1300 | +1300 |
Edmonton Oilers | +1300 | +1300 | +1300 |
Colordo Avalanche | +1700 | +1700 | +1700 |
See these odds? You’re still getting plus-money all around. Outside of the betting frontrunner, the next-best team is as long as a +550 bet. This is insane value that won’t last for long. The closer we get the end of the season, the more clear-cut this award-winning team will be. That means less favorable odds since some of the randomness is taken out of the equation. In other words, get on this bet sooner rather than later.
Best Bets To Win NHL Presidents’ Trophy?
We’ll be making multiple bets on the NHL Presidents’ Trophy and we advise you to do the same. The long odds all around allow you this type of flexibility (for now). Here is what to do:
Vancouver Canucks
All right, this is the “safe” bet, but it’s not necessarily our bet. If you’re only making one wager, then going with the Canucks makes sense.
The Canucks have been the most consistently good team this whole season. At first, it caught everyone by surprise, probably even the team itself. Here’s a team that’s only been to the playoffs once in the last ten years. But that was then and this is now: Vancouver is legit.
They are a league-best 36-12-6 this season. Any look at the advanced metrics will tell you this isn’t a fluke either. What we love most, the organization isn’t resting on its laurels. They’re still making deals, including one for Elias Lindholm a few weeks ago. Lindholm has already contributed a few goals for the Canucks so the move is paying early dividends.
We aren’t knocking any bet on Vancouver. They are worthy, but we just don’t love these odds. Odds of +190 are a little too rich for us when there’s still 30 or so games left — and disaster (injuries for example) could very well strike for them in the meantime. We feel there’s better value elsewhere, including these next two teams.
Edmonton Oilers
This is the ultimate “heat check” bet, isn’t it? It was just a week ago that the Oilers were on a 16-game winning streak — deadly close to the all-time record of 17 set by the Penguins in the early ‘90s. Edmonton fell short of tying the mark, but there’s no denying this team’s elite level of play right now.
If you remember, the team was 3-9-1 when they fired head coach Jay Woodcroft earlier this season. Now with Kris Knoblauch in the fold, they are 31-17-1. That’s an incredible turnaround, which is what makes us so bullish on this bet. If the Oilers can keep this pace the rest of the way, catching and passing the Canucks is very possible.
One more thing: this isn’t just the Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl show anymore like past teams. Don’t get us wrong, both former Hart Trophy winners are still doing their usual dominant stuff. However, this Oilers team is more well-rounded nowadays. Edmonton has seven double-digit goal scorers and five others averaging around a point per game. This is the type of depth you need to win the Presidents’ Trophy.
Dallas Stars
Dallas is right there in the thick of this Presidents’ Trophy race too. They own an impressive 33-14-6 mark at the moment. But want to know why we’re confidently betting on them? They should AND can be even better.
Right now, the Stars' big bugaboo is goaltending. It hasn’t been good, allowing 4.91 goals above average. We mean, that’s horrendous, which tells you how good they are elsewhere to keep on winning.
The struggles on the net are largely due to an injury to rising star netminder Jake Oettinger. Backup Scott Wedgewood struggled in his absence, however, Oettinger just returned to action. Assuming Oettinger can return to peak performance, there’s some upside on this Stars squad, hence our pick.
