2022 World Series Betting Advice
For our expert World Series betting advice, we’re going to focus on the five teams above with legit title chances odds-wise. No disrespect to playoff-hunting clubs like the Padres or the Jays, for example, but the championship is going to come down to the five outlined in the odds table. We’re giving you a team-by-team look at each with advice to bet on or not to bet on them:
Los Angeles Dodgers
No surprise here, the Dodgers are the runaway favorites to claim the World Series — as they’ve been all season long. Somehow, Los Angeles has exceeded those lofty expectations. Their win percentage is 69 percent, and have won six more games than the next-best team league-wide (Houston). You can pull multiple metrics to show the Dodgers' dominance but here’s perhaps the most impressive: a run differential of +301 (which is 101 better than the second-place Yankees).
Still, LA has concerns going into October. Opening day starter Walker Buehler is out for the rest of the season. Clayton Kershaw can’t stay healthy. Neither has slowed the Dodgers yet — they own the lowest ERA in baseball — but playoff baseball is different. With shortened rotations, you want every good arm possible available.
Regardless, you’d have to be crazy not to bet the Dodgers here. They’ve been the best club wire-to-wire and in fact, are playing stronger than any LA team has during its last decade of dominance — which says a lot given how talented prior teams have been. The Boys in Blue should be your biggest World Series futures bet, no doubt about it.
Houston Astros
Like the Dodgers, the Astros have dominated the championship conversation in recent years, and 2022 is no different. They lead the AL once more behind a completely-balanced team.
No need to lead you on here because Houston is another no-brainer World Series bet. While we have questions about the depth of the Dodgers' starting pitching rotation, no such worry exists for the Astros. Most of its starters — including Luis Garcia, Framber Valdez, Cristian Javier, and Jose Urquidy — are in their ‘20s. 39-year-old Justin Verlander isn’t but he might as well be because he’s found the “fountain of youth” despite serious injuries.
There’s no team in the AL that deserves your betting money more than the Astros. Not only is the talent obvious, but this team’s postseason experience is tough to beat. This leads us to this next team…
New York Yankees
Did the Yankees peak too early? It sure looks that way. The Bros Bombers owned an MLB-best 64-28 record at the All-Star break. Since then? They’ve gone 21-28. That’s not the trend you want to go into October with, which is why we’re staying as far away from New York as possible when betting.
Many things are going haywire with the Yankees since the break, but its offense is the most problematic. Aaron Judge has continued his monster tear — he’s up to 55 homers now — but production elsewhere in the lineup has been tough to come by. Save your money and instead throw it on the other New York team as we’re about to explain.
New York Mets
Yes, believe it or not, we’re saying the Mets are bet-worthy here — despite already vouching for the Dodgers. If there’s one team that can beat LA in October, it’s New York. That’s because the Mets own the most lethal trio of starting pitchers in all of the majors. Chris Bassitt, Jacob deGrom, and Max Scherzer can match up with any lineup, including the high-octane one in Los Angeles.
Plus, the way the betting lines are set up right now — Dodgers +300 and Mets +500 — you can afford to throw money on two separate NL teams. The odds are long enough both ways that you wouldn’t completely eat your profits so long as one goes all the way. Let these two juggernauts battle it out and profit on whoever comes out on top with dual bets.
Atlanta Braves
Alright, three World Series futures bets are enough already, and the Braves are the odd ones out — despite being reigning champs. They’re giving the Mets a massive fight to win the AL East, but again, that New York rotation is something to die for even in the event Atlanta wins the division. Atlanta, like decades of teams before them, will fail to go back-to-back.
