After things were quite memorable at the U.S. Open last month, fans now can't wait for the next major to arrive. Some of the best golfers on the planet will be making their way to the Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland. That's right, the British Open is on the way and people can't wait to see who will come out on top. Ahead of the first round next week, Scottie Scheffler is the favorite to win the 2024 British Open. Will he be able to come out on top?
Scheffler is the No. 1 golfer in the world and things aren't too close here. He's been on a tear this season, but he's now hoping to add a major title to his belt in '24. There's a loaded field that he's going to go up against, but Scheffler is playing with a ton of confidence. He's going to have to play at the best of his abilities, and he also understands that other participants are going to do everything possible to try and make sure he doesn't lift the trophy after the final round.

"I love winning. I hate losing. I really do. And when you're here in the biggest moments, when I'm sitting there with the lead on Sunday, I really, really want to win badly," Scheffler said after winning The Master's. "And my buddies told me this morning, my victory was secure on the cross. And that's a pretty special feeling to know that I'm secure for forever, and it doesn't matter if I win this tournament or lose this tournament. My identity is secure for forever."
According to the best sports betting sites, which includes the reliable Bovada sportsbook review, Scheffler holds +470 golf betting odds to post a victory. With the way he's been playing, it's easy to see why so many analysts and experts have him winning it all. It will be interesting to see if Scheffler will be the one to be smiling after capturing the glory, but we're actually going in a different direction with our selection.

Rory McIlroy is our pick to win the 2024 British Open
Believe it or not, Rory McIlroy is our pick to win the 2024 British Open. Heartbreak doesn't even begin to describe how things went for him at the U.S. Open recently. McIlroy was in a prime position to take home the title, but he absolutely blew it late in the final round. Usual putts that he'd make in his sleep didn't hit the bottom of the cup and he ended up losing things. It's been about a decade since McIlroy last won a major, which is hard to believe.
He had his best chance to wipe away all those bad memories at the U.S. Open, but again, he blew it. Now, McIlroy is motivated to try and eliminate those memories by winning his next major. He has the chance to do so in Scotland soon enough. Some fans are concerned that he might have a bit of a hangover from how things went at the U.S. Open, but McIlroy is using that all as fuel to try and get back on top.

"Yesterday was a tough day, probably the toughest I've had in my nearly 17 years as a professional golfer," McIlroy wrote on social media after his U.S. Open collapse. "As I reflect on my week, I'll rue a few things over the course of the tournament, mostly the two missed putts on 16 and 18 on the final day. But as I always try to do, I'll look at the positives of the week that far outweigh the negatives."
Per the oddsmakers, McIlroy holds the No. 2 odds behind Scheffler for the British Open. With his +650 odds per the top golf betting sites, it shows that there's belief that he's going to be in the mix to win things once the final round arrives. It's not going to be easy for McIlroy and there's a reason that Scheffler is considered the favorite to win it all. However, we think McIlroy will use the U.S. Open as a top reason to come away with a British Open win. We're going with him as our pick.
Bryson DeChambeau is also hoping to make noise at the British Open
Keep in mind here that Bryson DeChambeau is also hoping to make noise at the British Open. DeChambeau made countless headlines last month when he was able to post quite the comeback to win the U.S. Open. McIlroy was the one who had the collapse in the fourth round, which opened the door for DeChambeau to grab the title. Will he win another major, this time in Scotland?
That remains to be seen. DeChambeau has what it takes to win it, but Scheffler and McIlroy are still being viewed as the two standout golfers with the best chances to do so. Soon enough, we'll find out who wins it all, but DeChambeau is a golfer who simply can't be forgotten. He surely has what it takes to post a win and his +850 odds are also pretty intriguing here as well for people to consider.
