While it might not be a major tournament on the Golf calendar, you better believe that fans across the planet always look forward to the Players Championship whenever it arrives. This time around, there's once again a loaded field and a lot is on the line. So, who's going to come out on top? Entering play this week, Scottie Scheffler is the favorite to win the 2025 Players Championship.
Will he answer the call and step up? That's what so many people are waiting to see. We don't have to tell you that Scheffler is one of the top golfers on the planet, as he continues to put together head-turning performances when he hits the links. He knows how prestigious this tournament is, which is why he's hoping to live up to the hype.

“When I think about success, I don’t think about being the best player in the world," Scheffler told reporters this week as he gets ready for the 2025 edition of the Players Championship. "I think about my attitude on the golf course and my preparation."
According to the top sports betting sites, Scheffler has been given +330 golf betting odds to win the tournament this weekend. There are other stars who are hoping to prevent that from happening, but there's a reason Scheffler is at the top of the list right now. It will be interesting to see how things go down here, but we're rocking with him as our pick to win.
Rory McIlroy is hoping to make a splash at the Players Championship as well
While there's a ton of attention going to Scheffler, and rightfully so, don't forget that Rory McIlroy is hoping to make a splash at the Players Championship as well. McIlroy is going to go down as one of the best golfers of his generation and it's hard to keep track of all the success he's had throughout his career. He's also a threat to win a tourney whenever he participates.
This week at TPC Sawgrass, McIlroy is going to have a great opportunity to silence a lot of his haters as well. If he does end up posting a win, it won't come as a major surprise, but the thing is that with Scheffler holding such strong odds, people are anticipating him going on to win things with ease. McIlroy is ready to push for the title, though, as he has a great chance of pulling things off.
Looking to get in on the betting action? Now is a great time to do so. The best sportsbooks out there, including BetOnline, Bovada and others, do a great job of offering up great deals for new customers. The BetOnline promo codes and promotions are must-see, including with the Players Championship here. It only makes the competition even more intriguing.
As for McIlroy, he indeed wants to make a splash and he's hitting the links with +850 odds to win the Players Championship per the best golf betting sites. If McIlroy can start off hot and stay consistent both with his drives and short game, he could be in a spot to push Scheffler for things in the final round. We're sticking with Scheffler as our pick, but keep a close eye on McIlroy for this one too.
There are plenty of other contenders to watch at the Players Championship
While there's plenty of attention going to Scheffler and McIlroy, keep in mind that there are plenty of other contenders to watch at the Players Championship. At the top of the list has to be Collin Morikawa, as he has been on a tear and he's known for putting together some fantastic performances in big-name tournaments like this. He's of course not the only one, however.
In addition to Morikawa, golf fans are going to be monitoring Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas and many others. According to a report, 48 of the Top 50 players in the world are going to be competing this week. We don't have to tell you that speaks volumes to how high the competition is going to be. With the course being so lovely too, it makes things better, no doubt.
We don't anticipate this being a run-away event too. Yes, Scheffler is expected to push for the title and get the job done, but this won't be a tournament where he pretty much has things wrapped up by the end of the day on Saturday. Instead, we have a feeling that there's going to be plenty of drama on the final day of the event. Could things come down to the last hole or two? You never know.
What we do know is that Scheffler is going to have an uphill climb in trying to keep people from preventing him from winning it all. This is a tournament that people are quite excited for and so are we. Soon enough, we'll see how ends up lifting the trophy.
