It's that time of year that everyone in the cycling world loves. Yup, we're talking about the Tour de France, which takes place every summer. In the past, people have been tuning in to support Lance Armstrong, but those days are long gone. Now, it's time to see who will be able to capture the glory with a loaded field hoping to do so. Having said that, Tadej Pogacar is the favorite to win the 2024 Tour de France. Will he be able to get the job done?
Pogacar is easily one of the best cyclists in the world and there's a good reason he's considered the favorite to win it all. He knows what it takes to come out on top and he has plenty of experience too. He has won the Tour de France twice already, doing so in 2020 and 2021. To win it in back-to-back years is quite incredible. Now, he is hoping to regain the title and do so in convincing fashion. It's not going to be easy, but he's surely up to the challenge.

"That competition is coming," Pogacar said looking ahead to the Tour de France while he was competing in a race over in Italy. "I'm really looking forward to July to compete against Jonas, Remco and Primoz. First, we have to survive the last week here, and then the focus will be on July."

Jonas Vingegaard is our pick to win the Tour de France
It shouldn't be a major surprise, but Jonas Vingegaard is our pick to win the Tour de France. He's obviously no stranger to winning it all, as Vingegaard won things in 2022 and 2023. Ironically enough, he has gone back-to-back after Pogacar did the exact same thing right before him. Now Vingegaard, is hoping to post a three-peat and make some sweet history. He holds the No. 2 odds, as he's behind Pogacar.
In our opinion, it's a bit of a surprise that Vingegaard isn't the favorite. However, Pogacar is entering things with a ton of confidence. With things all set to start later this week too, we're going to get a great first look at how things are going to go for the early stages. Keep in mind too that this isn't an event that's going to be wrapped up in a few days. Things will go all the way to July 21 - this could be a long battle between Vingegaard and Pogacar.

“We’ve abandoned the ideal trajectory, but we want Jonas at the Tour because he has put so much work into his comeback,” team director Merijn Zeeman told Sporza in a recent interview. “And he will definitely be one of the better riders. Of course, Jonas hasn’t raced since the beginning of April, but cycling has changed more into a training sport."

With all of that said, there are some underdogs to watch at the 2024 Tour de France. Yes, Pagocar and Vingegaard are the two headliners, but that doesn't mean some other riders won't be ready to make a ton of noise. The long list includes Primoz Roglic, Matteo Jorgenson, Remco Evenepoel, Carlos Rodriguez, Adam Yates, Juan Ayuso and many others. Don't forget that there are tons of riders who have an upset on their mind.
It's not going to be easy, but we have seen some big-time surprises during stages in recent years. Out of all the guys we mentioned above, we think that Roglic could be the one with the best chance to pull off a stunner. He's a respected cyclist and he knows what it takes to win some popular races.
Now, Roglic is going to try and do his best to do the unthinkable next month in France. Yes, he doesn't have great odds, but crazier things have happened. We're going to stick with Vingegaard as our pick despite him being out of action for a few months, but if someone like Roglic were to be a serious threat to win it all, that wouldn't shock us. Be sure to keep a close eye on him moving forward. He has what it takes to surprise a lot of people.
