- What: NFL Week 10
- When: First game on Thursday, November 9
Spread: San Francisco 49ers at Jacksonville Jaguars
We have ourselves a showdown in Duvall. The Jaguars are quietly 6-2, while the 49ers are 5-3. Both teams are thinking Super Bowl this season and are coming out of a bye week. The best betting sites for NFL are ear-marking San Francisco as favorites over Jacksonville, just slightly. Here’s the current odds:
San Fran is riding a three-game losing streak. The main culprit of this downtrend? A shaky offense. Second-year man Brock Purdy has looked pedestrian for once (he had never lost a regular season game until this stretch). The 49ers have scored 17 points in all three losses — which just won’t do it.
Speaking of offense, Jacksonville has struggled mightily in the same department despite the hot start. The Jags are averaging 341.4 yards and 24.1 points per game. We mean, it’s not bad, but it’s underperformed given its year two of Doug Pederson and the addition of speedster Calvin Ridley. There’s a clear lack of explosion out of the Jags offense right now.
Out of the two, we’re more confident in San Francisco reviving the attack in this matchup. That’s because their issues have been injuries more than anything else. Its top three offensive players — Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and Trent Williams — missed game time during this losing streak. All are expected in full form Sunday and we expect the 49ers to take care of business and cover the spread.
Over/Under 38.5 Points: New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys
Get this, Dallas are whopping 16.5-point favorites on the spread. That’s too lopsided for our liking so we think the better bet is on the Cowboys-Giants over/under which is set as follows:
Why so low? And why is New York such massive underdogs? Well, they’re in quarterback hell thanks to injuries. Daniel Jones tore his ACL this past weekend and is done for the season. Backup Tyrod Taylor also has a rib injury that sounds serious enough that head coach Brian Daboll said he’s unsure when Taylor will be back at all in 2023. Yikes. That leaves third-string Tommy DeVito in the fold, or Matt Barkley, who was just signed to the practice squad.
We’ll be completely blunt: the Giants probably won’t score an offensive touchdown. Hell, they scored 0 points the first time these two teams met and that was with a healthy Jones. Now, with DeVito likely under center, this offense is in even more trouble.
That leaves the Cowboys’ attack with the duty to score over 38 points to hit the over. For what it’s worth, they put up 40 in that first meeting (the game ended 40-0). Our prediction is they eclipse that mark in Week 10. Why? Again, that New York offense is going to struggle, giving the Dallas offense good field position all game long. Throw in a DeVito turnover here and there, and this is an over waiting to happen. Bank on it!
Against The Spread: Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens
The AFC North is shaking out to be a barn-burner. All four teams would make the playoffs if the season ended right now. Cleveland is 5-3 and chasing division-leader Baltimore at 7-2. This level of competitiveness makes us want to bet the Browns vs. Ravens spread. Here’s how the odds shake out:
All of a sudden, Baltimore looks like a legit Super Bowl threat. They’ve put together two impressive wins in the last three weeks. First, they trounced Detroit 38-6, and then Seattle this past week in a 37-3 thrashing. The Ravens won both matchups with a ferocious defense and an equally impressive offensive attack.
We'd be shocked if this game is anywhere near as lopsided. No way. Division games are almost always competitive. Well, except the last time these two met in Week 4 when the Ravens won 28-3. There’s a caveat though and that’s Cleveland played the game with a backup quarterback. And while Deshaun Watson has dramatically underperformed his fully guaranteed contract as of this far, he’s still a big upgrade. Our money says Cleveland hangs close and covers.
