Therefore, it’s only right to begin our preview of the 2023 US Open with details about what we do know about the LAAC.
The first thing that jumps out about the course is that it features five par-3s, ranging from 120 and 290 yards. That’s noteworthy because the last US Open venue to feature five par-3s was a whopping 76 years ago. Other unordinary things (at least compared to previous Open hosts) are sloped fairways lined with Bermuda grass.

Best Picks To Win 2023 US Open
All in all, there are 156 players on the field. Being as it’s a major, you can expect just about all the big guns, from top-ranked pros to LIV defectors. Perhaps the only major name not suiting up this weekend is Tiger Woods, who’s recovering from surgery still. With so much talent in Los Angeles, you almost have to make multiple picks on the 2023 US Open winner.
Scottie Scheffler
Scheffler is the odds-on favorite to win this weekend and we would have to agree. He’s been on a complete tear most of 2023, and we see no signs of that slowing down. Scheffler has not finished outside of the top-12 since last October. So at the very least, bettors should consider him as a top-10-finisher play in the prop market.
But here’s why we’re going one step further and taking him to win: Scheffler has positive history at the LAAC. He was part of the 2017 US team that rolled in the Walker Cup. Scheffler was the star pupil of the squad that completed the second-largest margin of victory (19-7) in the history of the competition. That experience might mean a little extra in a field lacking it, hence our betting confidence.
Cameron Smith
As best as we can tell, the LAAC has shades of Augusta National — not only in its privacy but also in the way it plays. The course is dotted with undulations and slopes across its fairways and greens, which suit iron players with good putting. Welp, that just so happens to be Smith.
And look at Smith’s recent history at the Masters. Since 2018, Smith has four different finishes in the top-5. If our hypothesis about LAAC and Augusta having similar layouts is correct, then Smith is fully capable of nabbing the win. We’ll have money on it in that case.
Bryson DeChambeau
For our final betting pick, we wanted to dig for value. We found it with DeChambeau at a whopping +6000. That’s overpriced, but fitting for DeChambeau, a player that’s been overlooked since defecting to the LIV. We’re here to tell you, the California native is far from washed (he’s not even 30 years old) and can win here.
Remember, DeChambeau played at an elite level in the prior major, finishing fourth at the PGA Championship. At Oak Hill, he gained 7.5 strokes off the tee, which led the field by a wide margin (Scheffler was a distant second at 5.9). That was less than a month ago so the recent streakiness could very well carry over here. DeChambeau is a perfect longshot bet to take.
