Week 4 in the NFL is ripe with betting opportunities! However, after researching all 16 games, we’ve hand-picked the three best bets to make during Week 4. Want ‘em for free? Well, keep reading!
Against The Spread: Miami Dolphins at Cincinnati Bengals
This is the Thursday night game so you’ll want to bet on the Dolphins-Bengals game sooner rather than later. Miami — despite being the lone undefeated team in the AFC — are underdogs when they travel to Cincy in the eyes of top-used NFL betting sites:
Just as the Dolphins have been one of 2022’s big surprises, the Bengals have underperformed so far. They started 0-2 and while got in the win column last weekend, it was against the Jets. Still, Joe Burrow looked like his old self, torching New York for three touchdowns and 275 yards. But we doubt Burrow will have similar success on Thursday night versus Miami.
What’s tripped up the reigning AFC champions this year has been shoddy offensive line play (they allowed 13 sacks in two losses). That was largely a non-issue against the Jets — not necessarily because Cincinnati magically fixed its protection, but because New York is woefully inept at getting pressure. The Jets have a meager five sacks this season, two of which came against the Bengals.
Believe us, the Dolphins' defense can and will fly in this matchup. In Week 2, Buffalo’s high-octane offense ran 90 plays of offense on Miami but managed to score only 17 points of actual offense (they also got a safety on special teams). Moreover, the Dolphins managed a strip-sack on Josh Allen that set up the offense on the goal line. Unlike New York, we fully expect Miami to expose Cincinnati’s leaky offensive line.
We’re taking the Dolphins as road underdogs on the spread. This team’s 3-0 start is no fluke and are chomping at the bit to prove it on national TV versus a team that was a few plays away from wining last year’s Super Bowl.
Over/Under 45 points: Kansas City Chiefs at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
One would think a matchup featuring Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes would mean a massive over/under, but that’s far from the case here. The Chiefs-Bucs point total is set at a pedestrian 45 points. But honestly, it’s completely warranted.
Flat out, Tampa Bay’s offense is not good despite having the G.O.A.T. under center. In a can-you-believe-it stat, the Bucs have managed only three offensive touchdowns this season. A laundry list of injuries to the offensive line and receiving corp have contributed to the underperformance — issues that remain in Week 4.
And then there’s the Chiefs, who were upset by the Colts last time out. They mustered just 17 points in the defeat. We’re much more confident Kansas City’s offense is capable of a “bounce back” game but at the same time, Tampa’s defense is filthy. It flies under the radar how well they’ve played in three games, allowing just nine points per game.
All signs point toward this game being an under despite the big-name quarterbacks. Expect a defensive battle in the Sunday Night primetime game of the week.
Against The Spread: Jacksonville Jaguars at Philadelphia Eagles
The Doug Pederson revenge game is our final bet of the week. The one-time Super Bowl-winning coach of Philly is back for the first time since being fired in 2021. He’s at the helm of back-to-back-winning Jacksonville now but despite that streak, the Eagles open as touchdown favorites at home:
Pederson’s turnaround efforts with the Jaguars are going unnoticed by fans and bettors alike. This team just beat the breaks off of two playoff-caliber teams in the Colts and Chargers, winning by a combined 52 points. Trevor Lawrence is playing up to his No. 1 overall draft pick status and it’s predicated on Pederson’s offensive scheme — the same one that got career seasons out of Carson Wentz and Nick Foles back in Philadelphia.
Get this, Lawrence isn’t doing his damage vertically, as one would assume given his cannon of an arm. He’s succeeded by chucking it underneath and letting his speedy playmakers break a tackle. We’re confident that this Jags attack will be the best the Eagles have played so far. Philadelphia has had the benefit of playing less-than-stellar offenses in Detroit, Minnesota, and Washington.
We do have to mention Philly’s offense though. Jalen Hurts is playing at an MVP level so far (he’s averaging over 305 passing yards a game and has a passer rating of 106.5). Will he be completely stopped? Probably not, especially on his home field. But we do think Jacksonville is capable of containing him. That starts with a defensive line that can get at quarterbacks AND stifle running backs.
These team teams are more evenly-matched than oddsmakers are giving them credit for. We see it going down to the wire which suggests Jacksonville can cover the spread.
