Now, on to our UFC 248 predictions!
Middleweight Championship: Israel Adesanya (-280) vs. Yoel Romero (+220)
These two have been trading barbs at each other for months, but it's finally fighting time come March 7 in Las Vegas.
On paper, this seems like a gimme fight for the 18-0 Adesanya. He's 12 years younger than Romero and has a six-inch height and reach advantage. Moreover, Romero has also lost three of his last four bouts, including two against Robert Whittaker — the same fighter that Adesanya dismantled to win the title just five months ago.
However, fights aren't won on paper, they're won inside a caged octagon. And Whittaker, even at the age of 42, is still one of the most explosive and athletic fighters in the UFC today. His Olympic-level wrestling style is the perfect counter to Adesanya's striking prowess.
We absolutely believe this one is going the five-round distance — so if you find a prop bet for the exact finish, take a decision. But in the end, we're betting that Adesanya's long-range keeps the high-octane Romero at bay and ahead in the scorecard.
Betting pick to make: Adesanya (-280)
Women's Strawweight Championship: Zhang Weili (-190) vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk (+155)
What an absolute blockbuster this one will be. Weili has won 20 consecutive fights, including a violent TKO over Jessica Andrade to win the belt. Jedrzejczyk is a former titleholder in her own right, holding the strawweight strap for two and a half years.
How long this match could be the difference-maker. As a new champion, it's yet to be seen whether Weili has a gas tank that can endure a full five rounds. That's a steep contrast to Jedrzejczyk, which we know gets stronger as the fight wages on.
Still, our UFC 248 picks here is a Weili by either knockout or submission victory. Seventeen of her 20 career wins have come by KO or tap out so she's shown an uncanny ability to finish fights early — five rounds are damned.
Betting pick to make: Weili (-190)
Lightweight: Beneil Dariush (-165) vs. Drakkar Klose (+135)
With respectable records on each side — Dariush at 17-4-1 and Klose at 15-4-1 — a win for either fighter here would really elevate them in the lightweight division rankings.
This is a close matchup, but we really love Dariush's versatility in the octagon. As a black belt in both Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Muy Thai, he's comfortable either standing up or on the ground. Klose has a respectable ground game, but he seems to favor his stand-up game a lot more.
Our prediction is Dariush wins by submission. He's forced opponents to submit eight times before and Klose will become his latest victim.
Betting pick to make: Dariush (-165)
That does it for our UFC fight 248 picks! Ready to heed our advice now? Head over to one of the sportsbooks below to lock in your wagers. Signing up at any one of these betting sites is quick.
