Taking place on October 30, the numbered UFC show will be free of charge for those in the United States. The treat (not trick) is due to the event happening at Fight Island, which means an early start time for those stateside (11 am EST).
It's the first number event that's "free" in 10 years. We put free in quotation marks because you'll still need an ESPN+ subscription to watch. Still, there's no $70 add-on this time around and you can't complain about that.
UFC 267 Main Event Betting Pick
The fight card will be headlined by a light heavyweight title bout. The reigning champion, Jan Blachowicz, is a sizable favorite over the challenging Glover Teixeira. Below are the current UFC betting odds, per online sportsbooks:
The combined age of both fighters when the bell rings will be 80 years old (Blachowicz is 38, while Teixeira turns 42 two days before fight night). At each's age, you are who you are as a fighter by now. Technique can't get much sharper and athleticism sure isn't peaking.
With that said, in-right maturity can change. And right now, Blachowicz has the perfect mentality to defend his gold. What's made him so successful as of late — since October 2017, he is 9-1 —is patience. The Blachowicz of today uses his technical prowess, not flashy knockdowns, to methodically beat an opponent, as he did with Israel Adesanya (his first-ever loss) last time out.
That's the perfect antidote against Teixeira. The Brazillian is a winner of five straight himself. Interestingly, Teixeira took early damage while standing up in several of those wins. But as the fight wore on, his opponents "went for the kill" — a mistake that Teixeira capitalized on with takedowns and eventual submission wins.
We're of the belief that the more mature Blachowicz won't make the same mistake as Teixeira's recent foes. In a fight that goes the full five rounds, we predict that Blachowicz outclasses his challenger with strikes to get the win.
UFC 267 Semi-Main Event Betting Pick
In the other title fight, this one for the bantamweight championship, the odds are also lopsided. Only in this one, the challenger is the big-time favorite, not the title-holder.
You see, Yan and Sterling already met in the octagon once at UFC 259 in March. Yan — then the champion — was objectively controlling the fight. However, in the fourth round, Yan threw an intentional knee that earned him a disqualification. Therefore, Sterling was "awarded" the belt.
In the rematch, we fully expect Yan to pick up where he left off. He was up 29-28 after three rounds in the first bout, according to two judges, while the other scorecard had him trailing 29-28. But make no question about it, he was in full control in round four before the knee fiasco. Yan is a notch above Sterling and he'll prove it (cleanly) come UFC 267.
UFC 267 Betting Pick: Dos Anjos vs. Makhachev
To be clear, this lightweight matchup isn't officially on the UFC 267 card. Not yet at least, but most expect it to be added, including bookmakers. As you can see above, it's the most uneven fight we've covered in terms of betting odds. So why are we including it in our picks?
Here's exactly why: the props market. There's where you're going to find much fairer betting value than the moneyline. In particular, there's a bet-worthy prop centered around how the fight will be decided — knockout, submission, decision, etc.
Look, Makhachev is beating dos Anjos, no doubt about it. The former is 9-1 since entering the UFC, while dos Anjos is nearing retirement after having lost four of his past six fights. But how will Makhachev earn the victory?
We'd be stunned if Makhachev stops dos Anjos. In 13 career losses for dos Anjos, he's only fell by stoppage three times (two knockouts and one submission). He's a grizzled veteran that's past his prime, but wise enough not to make a mistake that ends his night before the three rounds expire. Find a prop bet on Makhachev to win via decision and hammer it home.
