2019 Masters Golf Tournament Odds & Betting Picks
Green — it’s what everyone in the golf world is chasing after this time of year. Fans are flocking to the green turf of Augusta, while players are after the green jacket and green prize money, which is about $2 million for the top finisher. Bettors can get in on the green themselves by picking the outright winner. Here’s a look at the best futures bets to make at the 2019 Masters!
The first major championship of the PGA season tees off on April 11. Of course, we're talking about the 2019 Masters Tournament down in Augusta, Georgia. This will be the 83rd edition of the prestigious Master's tourney and no different than years before, it'll likely be one for the history books.
If you're looking for Masters golf tournament odds, you came to the right place. Despite a whopping 86 golfers that have already qualified for the event, we're gonna give you the skinny list of actual contenders with a good chance to win. Per Bovada, here's the most-noteworthy Masters golf players odds:
- Rory McIlroy (+750)
- Dustin Johnson (+1100)
- Tiger Woods (+1400)
- Justin Rose (+1400)
- John Rahm (+1800)
- Brooks Koepka (+2000)
- Jordan Spieth (+2200)
- Rickie Fowler (+2200)
- Phil Mickelson (+4000)
- Bubba Watson (+4000)
- Sergio Garcia (+5000)
Even this condensed, whos-who list of golfers doesn't make picking a single winner easy. Still, following our advice below will give you the best Masters Golf 2019 odds of winning.
Back Where It All Started For Tiger
At this point, it's almost mandatory to ask, "is Tiger back?" The answer has been a resounding "no" for over a decade now, but that hasn't stopped the persistent questions.
It's understandable, of course. The run Woods had when he entered the tour in 1996 up until 2007 will likely never be matched — not by him or anyone else for that matter. During that reign of terror, Woods racked up accolade after accolade, including 10 Player of the Year honors (PGA record), 14 major championships (second of all time), and an ungodly amount of weeks ranked as the world's number-one golfer. Again, a historic run, but an unfair benchmark to compare against.
The "is Tiger back" crowd especially peaks at Augusta, though. This is the same course where he burst onto the scene back in 1997. A then 21-year-old Woods became the youngest ever to win the Masters, setting the tournament's course record at -18 (a mark that has since been tied by Spieth in 2015 at the same age).
We're here to tell you betting on Tiger to win the Masters is a pure sucker's bet. There's just no way a player that's won one PGA event since 2013 — last year's Tour Championship — should have the third-best shot at winning. Even worse, Woods hasn't claimed a majors title since 2008.
Save your money and skip any bets on Tiger. There are better golfers more deserving of your money. Allow us to explain.
Koepka Checks All The Boxes
When trying to nail down one winner, you really have to consider a multitude of things.
The first is recent success (this is why we're against betting on Tiger). The 28-year-old Koepka is the reigning Player of the Year and currently sits fourth in the world rankings. So check here.
Two is positive history at the course. While Koepka is without a top-10 finish at Augusta, he's trending in the right direction. He has improved his Masters' standing every year since placing 33rd in his 2015 debut. Koepka followed that with a 21st and 11th finish the following years. If not for a wrist injury that sidelined him a year ago, there is reason to believe Koepka would have been in the thick of it. Check and check.
Third and perhaps most important, you have to be a big-time player in big-time moments. It seems like Koepka brings his best when a major is on the line. Koepka has won three of the past six majors he's teed off in. A strong outing at Augusta is all that's eluded him this far into his impressive career. And check.
This feels like one of those "get the monkey off your back" moments for Koepka. After the resiliency he showed last year in overcoming his wrist injury, we like him to dig deep and earn the coveted green jacket in 2019. Koepka at +2000 is the pick to make.
Longshots With History
Many believe the course at Augusta favors left-handed hitters. Despite there being a shortage of lefties on tour, six of the past 16 Masters winners have swung from the left side.
Coincidence? Probably not. Augusta features a number of right-to-left holes that favor lefties. In such situations, left-handed swingers hit with the more favorable cut, whereas righties must hit the harder draw.
Five of those aforementioned six wins have come from two familiar names: Mickelson and Watson. If not for previous success at the Masters, both their careers would be drastically different. All two of Watson's major championships have come at the Masters. For Phil, his three green jackets outnumber his other major wins (a measly two).
For a pair of guys with steep +4000 odds at winning the whole thing, we like their chances. No, not as much as Koepka, but Watson and Mickelson are low-risk, high-reward plays.
