Will Donald Trump face impeachment?
Could Donald Trump be impeached? Might Congress opt to bring down the President of the United States? And would you bet on it? Well, you can if you want. Sportsbooks are taking wagers on Trump’s demise.
Is Trump Headed For Impeachment?
To paraphrase an old saying, there are lies, damn lies, and then there is Donald Trump. The 45th President of the United States doesn't just manipulate the truth, he bends it into fact-defying pretzels.
But is that enough to cost him his job?
That's doubtful, but when you take into account all of Trump's misdeeds - and the man has been a busy little bee through the first six months of his Presidency - it could lead to an unprecedented development.
Trump may be the first President to be impeached by both the House and the Senate. This could also make you some money.
Bovada.lv is offering wagering on Trump's future in the form of a prop bet. If you believe that Trump will be impeached by Congress prior to Jan. 20, 2018 - the first anniversary of his official arrival to the White House - you will get odds of +110. But if you fall into the no camp, that wager brings odds of -150.
You can also play odds of +135 that Trump will resign from the Presidency before completing his term.
The reasons why impeachment could happen seem to grow deeper roots with each passing day. Beyond the mistruths, his impulsiveness, his boorish behavior, his backroom business dealings that give off the odor of conflict of interest, and his complete and utter lack of concern for procedure and the laws of the land, there are even more serious concerns afoot, as it appears he's destined to drive America back to the stone age.
Trump pulled out of the Paris Climate Accord. He has sought to eliminate protections for the environment and for endangered species. And then there is the elephant in the room, the growing speculation about his ties to Russia and how that impacted the U.S. election.
The latest Gallup poll shows Trump's approval rating within the U.S. is at 39.6 percent. Globally, The Pew Research Group polled people in 37 nations to get their opinion of Trump as a statesmen and just 22 percent believed he would do the right thing in terms of world affairs.
There's just one problem in this scenario, a monkey wrench in the impeachment plan. You see, impeaching a President isn't as easy as standing up in front of the camera and pronouncing "You're fired."
Trump is a Republican and Republicans currently control the House and Senate. So unless there's a significant swing to the Democrats in the 2018 mid-term elections, or a Watergate-like scandal is unearthed within the Trump administration, impeachment certainly seems a reach.
Even Bovada seems to accept that. The sportsbook is also offering odds on who will win the 2020 U.S. Presidential election. And the current favorite at +200? Donald Trump.
Senator Elizabeth Warren (+850) is the top-ranked Democrat but you can also get +5,000 on Oprah Winfrey or Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and +15,000 on George Clooney or Tom Brady being the next President.
Predicition: Trump won't be impeached (-150)
