How To Bet 2020 WNBA Draft
The start of the 2020 WNBA season is on hold due to COVID-19. However, the WNBA Draft is still scheduled to take place on Friday, April 17 — virtually, of course. For bettors looking for some action, this is a perfect opportunity. Here are three bets you need to make before draft night!
Before we give out free WNBA Draft 2020 picks for betting, we have to remind you that you can earn hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars in free play by using a welcome bonus offer. It's as simple as signing up to a sportsbook for the first time and making an initial deposit, and voila — free money to bet!
Second Overall WNBA Pick
The first overall WNBA Draft picks is a practically a lock at this point. Oregon's Sabrina Ionescu is a staggering -10000 favorite to go first by the New York Liberty. However, the next player up is a much closer bet. Here are the current betting lines over at BetOnline:
- Satou Sabally (-300)
- Lauren Cox (+200)
- The Field (+1000)
The pick belongs to the Dallas Wings, one of three they own in the first round (alongside No. 5 and No.7). Dallas is looking to rebuild after dealing with its franchise centerpiece Skyler Diggins-Smith to the Phoenix Mercury this past offseason.
With little talent currently on its roster, the Wings are poised to follow the draft-the-best-player-available philosophy come draft time. At number two, that's without a doubt Sabally — a teammate of Ionescu at Oregon.
That's not to say Cox isn't a tantalizing betting option here. Growing up in the suburbs of Dallas and playing college hoops at the nearby Baylor, Cox is a local favorite that can draw a crowd. But Sabally, a 6-foot-4 forward that's extremely versatile, is the type of talent you can truly build a franchise around. Our money is on the Wings selecting Sabally over Cox.
Betting pick to make: Satou Sabally (-300)
Oregon Ducks Drafted In The Top 5?
We have a pair of Ducks going one and two already, could another join them in the top-5? Online oddsmakers think it'll be a close call:
- Two (-300)
- Three or More (+150)
- One (+1600)
- Zero (+10000)
The third member of Oregon's big three is Ruthy Hebard. Her college stats this past season were certainly impressive with averages of 17.3 points (off 69 percent shooting, no less) and 9.6 rebounds per game. Her pick 'n roll alongside Ionescu was almost unguardable in college hoops.
Still, a number of mock drafts have her going closer to 10 than 5. Concerns are mounting over how Hebard's game will translate to the pros against more physical talent and without a teammate like Ionescu. We find those concerns very well-founded and believe Hebard will slip past the fifth overall selection.
Betting pick to make: Two (-300)
Total Guards Drafted In The First Round?
If you miss betting over/under totals during this pandemic, we found one for you:
- Over 4.5 (-200)
- Under 4.5 (+150)
As we've said, Ionescu is a lock so that makes one guard for sure.
After her, there's a good mix of first-round worthy guards including Chennedy Carter (Texas A&M), Megan Walker (UConn), Tyasha Harris (South Carolina), Crystal Dangerfield (UConn), and Te'a Cooper (Baylor), among others. We think at least four of those will make the cut and push this to an over!
Betting pick to make: Over 4.5 (-200)
